Hayward Herald



The Hayward Herald is a non-profit, independent, hyper-local news outlet focused on the City of Hayward. We exist to fill a gap left by the collapse of local news media by providing an independent, Hayward-centric, voice for our community in a time when most people know more about what's going on in other countries than their own City. We want to educate Hayward residents about local news, events, and politics which will strengthen civic and community engagement.

Beyond our twice-weekly news offering, we've also created:

  • Over The Loudspeaker: a Hayward-focused news show where we discuss local issues and elevate the voices of your community. 

  • Hayward Voices: a speaker series where we bring together experts and change-makers to engage the community in discussion around the most pressing issues in our city. 

  • Hayward Herald Zine: a print publication that brings local news and art together in a 100% Hayward-made package.

We hope to create a media landscape that supports Hayward in a sustainable, community-driven way that prioritizes our people over short-term profits.
